Title: Fun With Microwaves

My microwave has had it. As is the way in this age of disposable white-goods, I can replace it for £30 which is bound to be cheaper than welding it back together. So the question is; what should I do with a fully working 650Watt microwave unit and power supply?
I'm thinking I can build a long-range wave-guide, or possibly use it as a MASER exciter. The beam of microwaves can then be directed at a small target from some distance. Perhaps up to 100 yards as a standard ray-gun, or 100 miles if I get the MASER working.
Microwaves can allegedly be used to alter the mental state by re-modulating your brain waves.
They can disrupt or destroy electrical equipment.
They can generate static discharges in the target, which can be modulated to speak or sing.
For example - if I pointed it at my neighbours TV it would first destroy it with a loud flash-bang, and then cause it to make ghostly noises while generating a blue aura around it.
Probably best not to point it at military air craft - it would set off the homing-missile alert systems and possibly cause me to be shot at. Speed traps might be a safer target though.
Also, does anyone know what the legal implications might be? I'm thinking most people would see the funny side eventually

Hmm, tricky. Only one microwave and so many uses! :o
The ghostly aura thing sounds like a winner - the question is, how much do you like your neighbours? I can see them being a little upset if you first destroy their telly, then make them think it was haunted. People can be funny like that.
If you go to your local rubbish tip recycling centre, I'm sure you'll find plenty of old (or not so old) microwaves there, so why not bag a couple and do all the options on the list? Or maybe you could combine them to make a super high powered whatever.

Point it at the local phone exchange. You'll knock out phones etc for miles around.
I'm sure BT will be delighted

Please tell me it was wired up to the battery and actually used whilst in the car

you could have gotten a pin and put bluetac on it and made the plasma glow, i always wanna do that :)
paulpowers - April 5, 2008 08:02 AM (GMT)
or done the grape plasma thing
or seen if bee's really do explode in a microwave
Or connected it to a battery and put loads of metallic objects in to make it blow up

Done that one. Was ok, but not that impressive. Importantly we didn't kill the microwave.
