QUOTE (jjofish)
Well seen as my first topic was shot down in flames.
Heres a new one and slightly more..... avant-garde....
Anyways i would like to find out if the people here are sencible or not..... so my challenge is simple... a poll...
Are the people today and tomorrow wearing there sencible trousers?
If not please feel free to tell me and everyone else as to why not.

And here is my reply:

It's an interesting question on several levels, worthy of debate. Welcome to the meeting place - you can never have enough members called JJ if you ask me

Firstly, there's the choice of the word "sensible". In a quirk possessed only of the English language it has several meanings, thus rendering this topic polymorphic. I shall ponder some of these meanings in the paragraphs to follow, but first we must ask ourselves an important question:

Is the polymorphic poll by intent or by accident? I like to think it was the former, since multiple meanings in a poll can lead not only to inter and itra-forum tension, but also inner conflict and possibly exploding brains.

The first meaning is the simplest. As our American cousins might say, "Practical Pants". There are various types of trouser suited to different purposes. There are however, very few designed for porpoises. I'm actually not wearing any trousers, because when I'm alone with my computer I like better it that way.

The second meaning is the metaphorical application of the first. One might equally have asked about a "Sensible hat". In this context, the OP is asking us about our current frame of mind. Do we feel sensible? My answer to that is again no. I feel very silly.

The third meaning is rather abstract, and indeed avant-guard. "Trousers that are able to feel or perceive". That is to say, trousers that are alive or possibly sentient. My particular take on this rather scary concept, is that they would very much be the wrong trousers. My answer once again is thus a resounding no.

The fourth meaning is related to the third, but since we are unable to tell if the trousers are the object or the subject we have to ponder "Can we sense the trousers". In other words, are they trousers with a substantial presence in our space-time, or are they more ethereal trousers? In my case, my trousers are less than ethereal so I again vote no.

To conclude, in my case - I voted "No"

I'm not, I'm wearing shorts.

My head hurts....

...I think my trousers are ok though.

I'm wearing pants, in the "Not-American" sense but no trousers so what do I answer?

I think that if I were wearing trousers they wouldn't be sensible as soon as they had me in them so ipso facto any trousers I was wearing wouldn't be sensible therefore my answer should be "No" and indeed it is...

I wearing a towel and I think it might be all I wear all day

I'm wearing trousers, although with the sock combo they couldn't possibly be described as "Sensible"
