Title: Food
Description: What makes you hungry?

JJW009 - October 24, 2008 05:28 PM (GMT)
Welcome to the hungry thread. Please post often

Basically I'm after several things:

1. What's your preferred type of snack?

2. What food makes you hungry every time you see or smell it?

3. What foods do you not eat?

4. Random foods you suddenly have a craving for...

I hope this thread will be inspirational and make you drool like a fool. Please feel free to post your favourite recipes :)

OK, I'll go first.

1. I prefer savoury snacks. I love spicy crisps and Bombay mix especially. I also love those Japanese rice crackers and anything with too much salt. Marmite is awesome :)

2. I'm incredibly suggestible. If someone on TV eats pizza, then I need to have pizza. I usually make do with my "instant pizza" which is basically cheese on <contents of fridge> on toast :shame:

3. I don't eat beef. That's surprisingly tricky sometimes, since you never know what contains bits of holy cow. I very often go for the vegi option just to be safe. Did you know that 99% of pork sausages have beef in? Mostly in the skin, but I was really cheesed off to find that Sainsbury's frozen bangers use vegetable casings but have "beef sinew" in the filling... Oooow lovely! Non-vegi cheese sometimes has cow in too, although most English cheese is OK. Holland was a nightmare though <_<

4. I currently crave roast lamb and fresh white bread, which is kinda handy because I have some :D

Right, I'll go second..... What was the question?

Oh, yes

1. I don't have a preference, I like SNACKS. I like sweet snacks like bikkits and doughnuts sometimes, and other times I like savoury snacks like 'Cool' Doritos, chinese rice crackers and sometimes bombay mix, I have recently discovered I like the last two even more when picked off the floor after they've been rolled in by a JJ :P

2. I'm not very suggestible, although it's the smell of things cooking that gets me sometimes and almost always with either Indian or chips.

3. The only food I really don't tend to eat is fish. Mostly because I have a bit of an aversion to eating something that lives in, eats and generally socialises with it's own waste, interestingly (or perhaps not) it's also the reason I don't eat rabbit. I don't have any hard and fast rules about any of this stuff, I'll give something a try if it's new, I've never had it before or sounds particularly gross (like "Rocky Mountain Oysters") I'm not a fussy eater although I do go through 'phases' of eating particular things.

4. I am craving Indian, I know there's Indian in the kitchen that we bought at Tesco so I'm drooling quite attractively at the thought, more than that though I'm craving prawn crackers which we don't have any of and this has only started since I got out of the bath :(

has anyone tried that buttery tasting flora? im totally addicted to it :( I even have the odd spoonful of it on its own, best "butter" I have ever tasted

JJW009 - November 3, 2008 11:57 PM (GMT)
Not tried Flora, but I did used to eat St. Ivle Gold like that... and earlier I had a spoon of Olivio :shame:

Today's anime was two episodes about curry, and one about a giant pizza. I'M HUNGRY!

RedeyesUK - November 4, 2008 12:28 AM (GMT)
After a weekend of having a cold, which killed my appetite, it came back with a vengeance tonight. I was starvin' when I got home. :(

So, a few peanuts (Nobbys sweet chilli nuts, to be precise), some pie, beans and sweetcorn, followed by homemade (courtesy of Mrs R) rice pudding, and I'm now absolutely stuffed.

I couldn't finish the pudding.

Still, I've got the leftovers for lunch tomorrow! B)

Anyway, the original question(s):

1. Normally sweet, but in my old age I seem to be tending towards savoury snacks these days. I'm not sure if that trend will continue, but I hope it does - chocolate is getting expensive these days! <_<
I've just been munching my way through some beef jerky in the last few days. Not as good as the proper stuff, but nice enough. Plus a tiny sliver can keep you going for ages! I've also been known to eat sunflower seeds on occasion. When I was young, I used to steal the seeds from my budgies' food. :shame:

2. I'm not really suggestible like that - what tends to happen with me is a random 'mmm, I really fancy some ----' thought pops into my head, then I won't be happy until I've had some of whatever it is.

3. Mushrooms is the one for me. I'm not overly fussed really - as long as I can't feel the chunks, then I'll quite happily eat something with mushrooms in it.
I'm sure there's a lot more I won't eat, but nothing is coming to mind right now. Although for me, it's usually a texture thing rather than taste - there's very few food things I don't like the taste of (I had mushroom soup once, and thought it was quite nice  )

4. All sorts really - usually stuff I haven't had for so long, I've forgotten it exists (also see question 2). Latest craving was for jerky - fortunately we were in tesco at the time looking at a packet of the stuff, so the craving-satisfaction time was quite short!

Ahh, that's one of my triggers.

Whenever I see it, smell it or think about it...

Curry!! :shame:

I went 4 years in the US without a curry of anykind, I got home and before long it was "My Name is Amy, and I am an Addict" :D

Damnit, now I'm hungry for Curry :(

4. Random foods you suddenly have a craving for...

1. Snacks - hmm I like Seabrooks ready salted crisps (so much nicer than those oily kettle chips), but generally my snacks are healthy, mixed nuts, dried fruit that sort of thing - however with christmas and mum's birthday this month I've been eating cake for breakfast and snacking on Cadbury's Roses.

2. Food that makes me hungry - sushi. It looks so pretty and tastes so fresh and yummy, i especially like nigiri and sashimi, salmon, eel, flying fish roe *drools*

3. I do not eat - I eat everything, I'll try anything new. however apple pie has a tnedency to make me feel very ill, especially if the pastry is slightly undercooked. yuck.

4. The food that once i get it in my mind i HAVE to have is german sausage. Yummy, especially Landjäger. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landj%C3%A4ger

 now i need to have some *books flight to germany*
