I've just noticed a feature on Speedfan I've not seen before. It can give you a detailed report on your hard disk, in plain English!

Got to the SMART tab and you'll see all the numbers. See that great big button labeled:

Apparently my 160GB drive is doing very nicely, but it warns me that it has been switched on longer than most.

Before my 120GB drive died, I noticed some unusual SMART data. It worried me but I didn't really know what it meant. What it meant was impending doom; so next time I'll take note!
