Title: How do you?

Burn .avi or .xvid files onto a DVD for watching on an ordinary DVD player?

Got a nice little prog for it. I'll send it you over msn when I'm home.

Well...it does avi not sure about the other one.

I just used the software that came with my DVD recorder (InstantDVD), or the full version of Nero does a lovely job. Needs to be the full version, not the OEM though.

What's the program you use Adam?

These days I just don't bother - I have a PC plugged into the TV so there's no point.

If it only does .avi then that would be more than acceptable as I only have a couple of the others to do.

My parents are unlikely to be getting an upgrade to wireless or TVout so a DVD burner will probably be the easiest option.

Actually they already have a CD burner so is it possible to put the files on them to work in a standard player?

It depends on the DVD player. 90% of them play video CDs which are mpeg1 and there is a lot of good free software to make them. You can only fit 1 hour on a CD before the quality gets too bad though.

Only cost 20p for a blank CD to try it I guess!

If you've got Nero, then even the OEM does VCD. DVD is always more expensive because of the licencing costs.

Not tried it but:

SVCD is better quality. You can just about squeeze 2 hours on a CD if there is a lot of blackness. My copy of "Perfect Darkness" fitted lovely

This is the thread I was on about Rob. I've moved it to the freeware forum as it is a bit more relevant there.

Thanks Matt.

Did Adam every identify or send you that program?

I'll try JJ's suggestion now.

Oh yeah sorry, forgot the update. I never managed to get around to trying JJ's suggestion and Adam and I didn't get in touch.

Craps out DVD files that need burning with nero or similar.
