Title: Silly Quake Server

JJW009 - July 1, 2007 10:52 PM (GMT)
It anyone has Quake 3 Arena and wants to play over t'internet then post here or prod me on MSN. The Silly Server is:

quake.yourwired.net:27960

But only when I'm actually on-line. I'm not gonna stand there dying over and over again for you amusement

paulpowers - July 2, 2007 09:45 AM (GMT)
Aww go on

RedeyesUK - July 2, 2007 10:54 PM (GMT)
Hmm, I'd better get a copy and get some practice in then.

There's nothing like being ripped to shreds while you're trying to figure out which key changes your weapon!

JJW009 - July 2, 2007 11:00 PM (GMT)
I like to use the wheel mouse to change weapen - except I keep forgetting! When I started to play they hadn't invented the wheel

belchingmatt - July 2, 2007 11:04 PM (GMT)
That sounds about right for UT, well if you hadn't been ripped off for the price of a wheel mouse as they were at the time. These days we have laser mice, tomorrow it will be gamma-ray mice, and next well next week it will probably be telepathy. :ph43r:

paulpowers - July 3, 2007 11:12 AM (GMT)
If your looking for good UT action head over to the EZE clan server
Server list
They have some mental mods like the penis gun on the insane server (guess what it fires)

JJW009 - July 8, 2007 10:56 PM (GMT)
It should be on-line now; but I'm not really sure if it's working over the router... If you go to multiplayer and click "SPECIFY" and put in quake.yourwired.net then you should connect. It doesn't work for me though; not sure if that's because I'm inside the network already.

I'm not playing right now but there are a few really stupid bots in there you can frag. Also - there is a BFG if you can get it without getting squished! Let me know if it does / doesn't work for anyone?

JJW009 - July 8, 2007 11:19 PM (GMT)
Well I think it works - a player called Redeyes just logged in with a ping of 100. I guess I'm gonna have a bit of an unfair advantage - my ping was about 5

Only a day and half late. Never mind <_<

What an excellent excuse. I think I'll use that.

JJW009 - July 9, 2007 02:35 PM (GMT)
Looks like they have release the sauce:

http://ioquake3.org/?page=get

but you still need the PAK files for the game data. There is however, an OpenArena which I shall be investigating further when I'm not supposed to be working...

http://openarena.ws/?about

If it's any good, or if I find a better Open Sauce version then I'll convert to that. In the mean time; Quake3 can be found Used for about £2.99 if you want the shiny disk

belchingmatt - July 13, 2007 12:51 PM (GMT)
I just had a quick play to see if I could and had a ping of 70-75. Doesn't help to explain why I was getting kicked from the CPC servers last night for breaking the 150 ping limit.

JJW009 - July 13, 2007 12:59 PM (GMT)
LOL - my old XP1800 is running the server on a regular 1Meg ADSL line. You'd think they could improve on that

Actually the bots are still playing - trouble with that level is; they're never going to hit the frag limit. They keep commiting suicide and everyone has negative scores!!

I'd better go and give them a good thrashing. I could simply kill them from the command interface... but that would mean remembering how to type "kill all bots" or something not much fun

JJW009 - July 15, 2007 03:49 PM (GMT)
It's currently off line because it crashed; and I'm trying to find a better level. I really like that level but the bots really don't!!

Also; I'm moving this thread to the games forum. Duh!

There you go; that's more challenging!!

Remember to add the server to your favourites and poke me if you fancy a non-bot combatant

bally199 - July 6, 2008 01:20 AM (GMT)
Is it gonna be on any time soon eh?

I'm kinda missing out on pwning n00bz...

Adam,

JJW009 - July 6, 2008 12:15 PM (GMT)
I'll definitely get it up for the party. I'll probably get it up later today actually, make sure I remember how to do it!

I turn my PC off now to save electric though, so I can't leave it running 24/7 like I used to. I wish the electric wasn't so darned expensive, then I'd run a separate server for everything. I've got all the hardware, just can't afford the juice!!

JJW009 - July 8, 2008 12:11 AM (GMT)
Damn, I don't remember it being so complicated!

It's nearly there, just need to add some bots to keep it busy...

JJW009 - July 13, 2008 08:46 PM (GMT)
I was too drunk to get it up; sorry :shame:

If anyone fancies a quick mess about, give me a poke on MSN and if I'm free then I'll give you a good fragging

If I owned a copy of Quake then I would, although you would probably slaughter me.

I will eventually be moving over to the open-source version. At my current rate of website development, I expect it to be ready in early 2198

belchingmatt - August 24, 2008 11:05 PM (GMT)
Quake doesn't appear to work with Vista. Another damn good reason to downgrade to XP.

JJW009 - August 25, 2008 02:21 AM (GMT)
Does Doom work on Vista?

Someone once said something a bit like: "It's not a computer if it won't play Doom!"

I've even seen it running on a iPod with a hacked Linux firmware. OK, so it only managed about 1fps but still

*googles*

Actually, the newer ones are pretty good at it!
